Folding Keyboard

A folding keyboard is an easily portable and compact computer accessory.

A folding keyboard is a useful computer accessory for several different types of people.   If you are traveling a decent amount, for work or leisure, a folding keyboard is a great way to conveniently bring along your favorite keyboard without taking up space.  A folding keyboard is also quite beneficial for any one who is switching back and forth from a Mac and PC.  Due to the fact that the keyboards on different computers are formatted differently, it can be quite annoying to go back and forth.  When I type on my Mac and then switch to a PC, it is frustrating and takes a while to get used to.  Unfortunately, this process repeats itself every time I change computers.  A folding keyboard is also a great gift for any friend or relative who likes to keep up with new technology.

If you are looking for the right folding keyboard to buy, you should first identify your needs of the keyboard.  If you want a keyboard that you will be able to connect to a desktop, then you should look at wired folding keyboard models.  With a wired folding keyboard, you can simply unfold it and plug in to any desktop (or laptop) and the keyboard should work immediately.  It is also possible that separate software is needed in order to make the keyboard compatible with your computer, but if that is the case, then the folding keyboard will come with software included.

Most wired folding keyboards are connected via USB (Universal Serial Bus) ports, so you will want to be sure that your computer is USB compatible.   If you are not sure if your computer has USB port, don’t worry.  It is relatively easy to figure out if your computer has a built-in USB port.  If your computer was purchased more recently than 2001, then chances are you are good to go.  If you are using a Mac, then you need not worry.   In general a wired folding keyboard is much less expensive than a wireless folding keyboard, costing around $45 for a quality keyboard.

The other option is getting a wireless folding keyboard.  In general, a wireless folding keyboard works via Bluetooth, so you will want to be sure that your computer has Bluetooth or similar wireless detection technology enabled.  A wireless folding keyboard is a great option, as it allows you to type from anywhere in the room and you are not confined to the harsh angles of a laptop computer, which often leads to wrist problems like Carpal Tunnel.

One thing to be sure of when purchasing a folding keyboard is what computer system it is made for.  Sure, you can probably use a Mac folding keyboard on a PC, but if you are primarily using PC’s, then you will most likely want to get a folding keyboard with PC format.

Many Palm users have a difficult time typing on their devices, which makes a wireless folding keyboard a popular purchase.  The Palm Wireless IR Folding Keyboard is great for this purpose and only costs approximately $23.
